FIONA SWAN

As a Pilates Instructor, I enjoy working with individuals to help improve health and well-being.

As we age Pilates is an excellent way to maintain and improve physical fitness. If practiced correctly, Pilates can dramatically improve overall body strength, increase mobility around joints, and help to correct postural issues.

But perhaps the greatest thing about practicing Pilates is the improvement it can bring to quality of life. Being strong enough and flexible enough to get on and do all those activities you enjoy for longer. For example, being able to get in and out of a boat easily, scramble over rocks on the beach, get over that style on Dartmoor, or play with your grandchildren down on the ground.

As an instructor, I try to keep client-focused. It's important to me that my classes fit with what people need. I also particularly welcome individuals who perhaps haven't exercised for a while to come to my classes and just give it a go.

Make a start

Remember what's important, whatever your age, experience, or ability is getting started and then making progress over time. As a Pilates teacher, it's very rewarding to see improvements being made, friendships being forged and individuals having a better lifestyle as a result.

In addition to my qualifications, I strive to keep abreast of current thinking via continual professional development and aim to deliver my knowledge in an enjoyab and effective way. I therefore hope that you will try one of my classes soon. Whatever your starting point, we can all make improvements. One of the main ingredients is consistency. Keep attending and like Joseph Pilates says.

You may also like to try Nordic walking, which is a great complement to Pilates. In addition to improving bone strength, it's particularly good for improving cardiovascular fitness in a low-impact way.

Details of my Nordic walking training and classes at Haldon Forest Park can be seen at www.nordicwalkingdevon.co.uk

Hope to meet you soon.
